Ladywood takes part in the national Modeshift Sustainable Travel Accreditation & Recognition for Schools award initiative which aims to:

  • increase opportunities for daily physical activity by promoting active and healthier ways of travelling to school such as walking, cycling and scooting;
  • make a contribution to improving air quality;
  • help reduce traffic congestion;
  • promote safer and sustainable ways of travelling for all journey modes.

Children continue to learn about road safety and the school takes part in Clean Air Day campaigns and the local authority's Travel Smart week which happens twice a year.

We have Bikeability training for KS2 children and for the younger children, Scooter Smart training helping them all to travel safely on their journeys to school.

When travelling to school, please think about your mode of transport. Can you travel in a more sustainable way that promotes exercise, safety around the school and is better for the environment?

  • Walking is good for exercise, keeps cars off the roads and is better for the environment.
  • Park and Stride - if you need to come by car, can you park away from school and walk the rest of the way? This makes the outside of school safer as there are fewer cars.
  • Scoot or ride to school. This is good for exercise and again, keeps car use down. We have a bike rack and storage for your wheeled transport.
  • Car sharing is better than every family coming in separate cars.
  • Using public transport.
  • If you do have to come by car, please park sensibly and with courtesy. Do not block residents drives or park on the yellow zig zag lines and please do not sit in your car with the engine idling. This will cause air pollution around the school.

Please see below our Travel Smart Policy.
